I&R Demolition Ltd was awarded the contract for the demolition and crushing works at the former Healey Brothers Rope Works in Heywood. Our scope of works was to demolish the 3 acre mill site and crush all arising hardcore to 6f2 specification, followed by excavation of foundations and yard area, crushing all arising hardcore to 6f2 which would be reused on site during the construction. The site was being cleared to make way for a mix of new housing and an apartment block.
The demolition was carried out using our 20 ton + 30 ton excavators fitted with selector grab attachment and all materials segregated into roll on roll off skips as we progressed. On this project we reclaimed / upcycled a large quantity of materials from all the roof slates and usable bricks to the wooden floor boards and joist. These items were sent all over the country through various suppliers to be reused on other building projects. We aim to reclaim as much as physically possible enabling us to lower our carbon footprint minimising waste and giving materials a new lease of life.
Once all the excavation and demolition was complete all hardcore generated was crushed and stockpiled on site ready for the groundworkers to start installing piling mats.
The project was a 20 week program from start to completion. Immediately following the demolition the site was required to be drilled and grouted, these works had to commence on the set date which meant our 20 week program could not slip. Over the weeks and months we closely monitored progress ensuring targets were being met and potential issues flagged up and addressed. The careful planning and execution by the site team ensured the site was handed back to the client on time and on budget and to their satisfaction.
