I&R Demolition Ltd was awarded the contract for the demolition, party wall works and crushing works at Western Avenue in Speke Liverpool. The location of this project was a corner plot and involved the demolition of derelict properties on Hale Road and demolishing former shops and flats on Western Avenue. The site was being cleared to make way for a mix of new housing and shops in the area.
The demolition was carried out using our 30 ton excavator and a high reach excavator fitted with selector grab + pulveriser attachment and all materials segregated into roll on roll off skips as we progressed. The buildings on Western Avenue were a concrete frame construction which meant using our concrete pulveriser attachment to demolish the structure bit by bit separating the rebar as the demolition progressed. A High reach excavator was fetched to site initially due to the height of the structure and minimal working. This allowed us to reduce the height of the building to a point where our 30 ton excavator could safely take over the rest of the demolition.
The building on Western Avenue was subject to party wall notice as the joining neighbouring property was to remain. This meant a full scaffold design was carried out with a full scaffolding erected on the far gable end with working lifts so it could be demolished by hand. The gable was fully demolished by hand and reduced in height as the demolition progressed all the way down to floor slab level.
Once all the demolition was carried out all the hardcore was to be crushed and reused on site for the future construction works. As the site was very tight and limited with space we had to excavate the foundations and floor slabs in the crushing location then crush back into that zone. As the works progressed we had to carefully plan the sequence for the excavation and crushing to ensure stockpiles of 6f2 wasn’t covering ang old foundations and was only stockpiled on proven ground.
The project was completed in the time agreed a 12 week program from start to completion enabling the party wall remedial works to commence.
