I&R Demolition Ltd was awarded the contract for the demolition and remediation at Foxhall Village in Blackpool. This stalled housing development had been sat derelict for many years after the previous developer went into administration. Our scope of works included the demolition of partially built properties, excavation of foundations down to the concrete ring beam, crushing all hardcore arising from demolition and excavation to 6f2 which would be reused on site and general site clearance removing redundant building materials from the previous developer. As there was 80+ houses to be built on site there was a tight program for the demolition and remediation works to be complete ready for the groundworks to start.
The demolition was carried out using our 20 ton excavator fitted with selector grab attachment and all materials segregated into roll on roll off skips as we progressed. The concrete floor beams were processed using a pulveriser attachment to separate the rebar from the concrete. An artic dump truck was used to transport the hardcore across the site to the designated crushing area.
Once the crushing was completed we installed piling mats on the plots which required piling. This consisted of a reduced level dig removing 2200 tons of earth off site and then forming the pile mat on that area. The pile mat was built up in 2 layers of 300mm of crushed 6f2 from site won materials during our previous demolition and crushing works. The mat also had 2 layers of tensar membrane in between the 300mm layers which were then compacted with a roller. The remaining crushed hardcore was used to form the site compound and forming site entrances.
The project was completed within 8 weeks and handed back to the client ahead of schedule with piling and groundworkers starting as per program.
