I&R Demolition was awarded the demolition and site clearance package for the old Slingco manufacturing complex in Rochdale to make way for 37 new affordable homes by a new client. The site consisted of 2 portal frame manufacturing buildings and a single story office building.
The buildings construction was concrete portal frame to the manufacturing buildings with heavily reinforced with rebar. While selector grabs where used to remove the composite roof sheets a concrete pulveriser was used to munch through the building structure separating the concrete from the rebar. As a company we believe it’s important to support local charities whenever possible and this site had offices full of left behind desks, chairs and filing cabinets. We contacted a charity local to Rochdale who removed all the items that they could sell and raise money for the local area and help those in need.
We had 2 demolition excavators on site with 1 doing the demolition and the other segregating materials into wood, waste and scrap metal skips leaving only clean hardcore ready for the crusher. Once all the demolition was complete we started breaking up the existing floor slabs using a hydraulic breaker attachment and removing old foundations and drainage.
Once all the hardcore had been stockpiled a jaw crusher was brought in to crush all the hardcore generated from demolition into reusable 6f2 aggregate which will be used in the construction stage. Producing up to 200 ton of crushed material per hour the crushing works were complete in 3 days. The site was cleared and ready to build in 4 weeks 1 week ahead of program which meant the client could get the groundworkers in sooner.
With most of the plant and skips removed all that was left was to backfill any voids with clean crushed material, grade and track the site in level.
